Kosovo PM Thaci to be investigated on Marty Report allegations

Dick-HashimPRISTINA, Kosovo — Kosovo media widely covered the intention of the European Union (EU) to investigate accusations of the Dick Marty Report. The Council of Europe Ra- pporteur, Senator Dick Marty, in his report from December 2010 claims that members of the Kosovo Liberation Army (KLA) in the time from 1998 to 2000 were involved in organ trading and organized crime. A special focus is given on the so called Drenica Group of the former KLA commander, current Kosovo Prime Minister and Head of the Democratic Party of Kosovo (PDK) Hashim Thaci. Kosovo parliament supports Ramush Haradinaj at ICTY

HaradinajPRISTINA, Kosovo — The Kosovo Parliament today held a session on the ICTY trial against former Kosovo Prime Minister Ramush Haradinaj. As to Kosovar media, the parliament unanimously adopted the recommendations initiated by the Alliance for the Future of Kosovo – AAK – on the partial retrial of its chairman, who currently is arrested at The Hague for alleged war crimes. The Deputy Head of the AAK, former Kosovo Labour Minister Ahmet Isufi, stated he believes "in the innocence of Mr. Haradinaj and his comrades, and in the fight of the Kosovo Liberation Army".   Read the rest of this entry »

Kosovo War Crimes Institute established

KuciPRISTINA, Kosovo — The Government of Kosovo decided to establish  an institute for the investigation of war crimes. The war crimes institute will have the status of a public agency, which will work under the Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Kosovo. Its main focus will be to keep evidence of crimes and damages committed by Serbia in Kosovo during the time period 1990-1999. According to  Kosovo Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Justice Hajredin Kuçi, the institute "… will collect, process, classify and store cases of war crimes, crimes against humanity and values, ​​protected by international law."

Kosovo Parliament to investigate on illegal Secret Service SHIK

Florin-KrasniqiPRISTINA, Kosovo – Following an initiative of the “Alliance for the future of Kosovo” (AAK),  the parliament of Kosovo will investigate on the activities of the informal Kosovo-Albanian war-time and post-war secret service organization SHIK (resp. K-SHIK, to distinguish it from the Albanian intelligence agency). Florin Krasniqi, head of the parliamentarian committee for the supervision of the Kosovo Intelligence Agency (KIA), by Kosovar media was quoted as saying he would “go till the end and find out the truth about the 10 years of work done by SHIK”. In this context MP Krasniqi, who belongs to the oppositional “Movement for Self-Determination” (LVV), emphasized the need to establish an according investigating committee, addressing “SHIK’s past and all its files”.  …

The Coming Balkan War

ICTYIn the Washington Times Jeffrey T. Kuhner comments on the decision of the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia – ICTY – to sentence the Croatian General Ante Gotovina to 24 years in prison. According to Kuhner the court’s ruling is wrong. Through this, Kuhner believes, “The Balkans – again – will explode with violence. … And the so-called “international community” has been pivotal in stoking the flames of ethnic conflict”. Thousands in Kosovo protest against arrest of former Albanian KLA combatants

kosprotPRISTINA, Kosovo ++ In 26 towns of Kosovo today occurred protest rejecting the arrest of former members of the KLA Brigade 121 by EULEX. About 200 NGOs make up the Coalition for Democracy. Protesters claimed EULEX arrests would intent damaging the reputation of Kosovo as well as supporting Serbia in ongoing negotiations.
