PRISTINA, Kosovo ++ This weekend the political party AKR requested a guarantee from Kosovo PM Thaci and his PDK for a re-election of Pacolli as President of Kosovo at the upcoming respective parliamentary session. Former short-term Presi-dent Pacolli and AKR expressed this request as a condition for an ongo-ing coalition with the PDK. Otherwise AKR considers withdrawing their ministers from the Government at the beginning of the week:
”Thaçi’s obligation is to respect the agreement … If this is not fulfilled then we have no reason to continue the coalition with the PDK” warns acting head of AKR, Makolli.
This statement has to be seen in the context of Thacis current request to abandon Pacollis candidature for the Kosovo presidency, taking into account the boycott threat of opposition parties. According to Thaci this request refers to Pacolli directly and not to the AKR, which still could present alternative candidates.
Meanwhile LDK head Isa Mustafa announced an LDK MPs boycott of the election session in case no solution is found for a Kosovo presidency candidate, who is able to balance the powers.
However, although expected on last Friday AKR Head Makolli intends to submit the request for the extraordinary election session on Monday. At the same time political analysts suspect PDK and AKR to have already agreed on moving towards extraordinary elections within 45 day.
